Flexible stone, a new environmentally friendly decorative material, combines the texture of natural stone with the plasticity of flexible materials. It is widely used in architectural interior and exterior wall decoration, artistic design, and other fields. Its unique flexibility and lightweight properties give it significant advantages in complex curved surface construction. The following details standard flexible stone handling methods to ensure construction quality and results.

I. Substrate Preparation
Before construction, the substrate must be thoroughly inspected and prepared. The substrate should be flat, solid, free of hollows, cracks, or oil stains, and its moisture content should be less than 8%. Uneven substrates should be repaired with cement mortar or a specialized leveling material to ensure a surface flatness tolerance of no more than 3mm. If the substrate is concrete or cement mortar, applying a primer is recommended to enhance adhesion.

II. Material Preparation
Flexible stone is typically supplied in rolls or sheets and must be cut to the designed dimensions before construction. Use a specialized cutting tool to ensure clean edges and avoid burrs that may affect the jointing effect. The adhesive used should be a flexible stone adhesive specifically formulated for compatibility with the base material and the stone. Before application, the adhesive should be stirred thoroughly and allowed to sit for 5-10 minutes to eliminate air bubbles.

III. Paving Application

1.Applying Adhesive: Using a spot-frame or strip-applying method, apply adhesive evenly to the base layer, maintaining a thickness of 2-3mm and spacing approximately 15-20cm apart.

2.Laying Stone: Align the flexible stone and gently press it in place. Use a rubber hammer or scraper to smooth it from the center outwards, removing any air pockets and ensuring a tight bond.

3.Jointing: Leave a 2-3mm gap between adjacent stones to facilitate later caulking. Use a matching caulk or sealant to enhance the overall aesthetic.

IV. Post-Care Maintenance

After application, allow the surface to sit for 24 hours to ensure a secure bond. Avoid heavy impact or water damage within 24 hours. After fully curing (usually 48-72 hours), subsequent treatments such as caulking, sanding, or painting can be performed.

The key to flexible stone construction lies in substrate preparation, adhesive selection, and precise control of the laying process. Strict adherence to these procedures maximizes the lightweight, flexible, and durable properties of the material, achieving high-quality decorative effects.
